Steinklang Geschichte

STEINKLANG RECORDS was founded in 1992 as a presentation platform for different activities in the Industrial-Noise music genre.

the first activity was the organisation of a live concert in 1992 with JIM O'ROURKE, the head of the famous experimental band ILLUSION OF SAFETY and following noise disco.

the first official appearance was the SCHMERZTHERAPIE festival in Salzburg (Austria) in november 1993 with a performance by GENOCIDE ORGAN and RASTHOF DACHAU.

1994 we began with label work. The first Steinklang release was a videotape from the Schmerztherapie festival.

in october 1994 the second STEINKLANG festival took place in Salzburg, feat. IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES, DEUTSCH NEPAL, SÖLDNERGEIST and ANENZEPHALIA.

some days before, on october 1st 1994, Steinklang opened the doors for the first Industrial / Independent / Wave / Techno Recordstore in Austria.

at the end of 1994 the first vinyl releases came.

1995 several concerts and parties were organised (amongst them LEGENDARY PINK DOTS and MERZBOW) and a second store was opened in Wels.

unfortunately we opened a third recordstore in Vienna end of 1995 and this was the beginning of a big misery. I do not want to bore anybody with details about this bad time and the bastards we "worked" with in Vienna, so let us skip that theme.

middle of 1996 we had to close all 3 stores and give up our label-activities because of financial reasons. my friend Pedro from HOERSTURZ was my only crossing point to the Industrial scene for years, until Alex opened TOTEM-RECORDS in Vienna.

these two great friends financed the first 5 releases after our "comeback" in 2002 (SK16-20), for which I will be thankful with them forever!

A big thank you also to my fellow Daniel from DOWNLOAD ENTERTAINMENT, who helped me a lot from the beginning on and who designed our first homepage.

in 2003 we moved to our new headquaters in the holy central- european Alps, from where we now supply the Industrial- and Folkmusic scene with many powerful releases. at the same time we began to split our releases into several different product-groups, to give You a better orientation about the different music-styles we support.

so far for now...

finally we want to say goodbye to a friend:
